QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"I am the only person-like thing (person, actually) that is needed in a description of my bodily activity" (McDowell (2007) "Response to Dreyfus" in Inquiry 50.4: 369)

another hiatus

i apologize for the recent most prolonged hiatus from spontaneity&receptivity. i have been writing my dissertation and have not been focusing as much on McDowell as i had originally planned. i intend to return to commentary on McDowell as time affords... another reason for my hiatus is my recent travels exploring first nature and bodily intentionality...

Good morning, Mr. Hunt. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, involves the recovery of a stolen item designated "nonconceptual mental content." You may select any two team members, but it is essential that the third member of your team be John Henry McDowell.

thank you, Tanas for this mission. i will accept it (although it was already my mission, and my allegiance is already with The OTHERS...), but i'm not sure the recovery you suggest is possible without significant deconstruction and therapizing of the philosophical tradition, especially Cartesianism. and, though i would like to have JHD 'on my team' so to speak, it is unlikely that he will recover the stolen item in its original form. he may rather return NCC qua the material of sensation, which though it is nonconceptual, it is not mental content. also, his south african upbringing puts into question his desire to tackle the cliffs of the Canadian rockies, where it is rumored NCC is hiding...

No, seriously, it looks like a scene from Mission Impossible. Uber-cool.
